In June 2017, he was picked as Elvis Duran’s Artist of the Month appearing on NBC’s Today show with Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford performing his hit “Selfish” live on the program. This became his debut appearance on U.S. national television. His newest hit single “Selfish” released in February 2017 has reached over a million streams on Apple Music. It appeared in the “A-List Pop” playlist on Apple Music, which is a huge accomplishment. Sutherland also co-wrote on Timeflies’ new EP.

Sutherland was a contestant on the The X Factor 2017 (UK) and made it through to the Live Shows. He made waves with his incredible audition singing Marvin Gaye’s “Get it On” and then stood out in a group performance of “Say You Won’t Let Go” by former X Factor winner James Arthur. In the “Six Chair Challenge” he was in a high stress situation fighting for a chair to make the top 6 boys. He battled in a sing-off, and eventually Louis Walsh put him through to the Judges Houses round. He performed an incredible emotional song at Louis Walsh’s house where he opened up about his father. Spencer earned a spot in the Top 3 boys with this performance.
